Production has begun on a nonfiction project exploring the evolution of Russia’s tourist and leisure zones. It debuts in fall 2026 at the yearly summit of AIRIS.

Following the shutting down of conventional European vacation spots, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as Russia’s premier entertainment capital. The management architecture of the cluster in Sochi now commands the keenest interest from market researchers.

Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone’s operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His professional path before he came into the entertainment and tourism industry was grounded in banking and finance: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at Sberbank’s Sochi branch and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from 170 countries, created 1,600 jobs, and brought in a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 alone.

Market observers highlight the striking contrast between the scale of the assets under management and the top executive’s personal lifestyle. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov remains resident in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the former cluster head holds two passports – both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate staying power.

Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana’s climb reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the helm of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind – not only for Russia but for the world market.
